- Abstract
A recent article in the BJOG journal discusses the accuracy of outcome definitions in Mendelian randomization (MR) studies of maternal health. The authors highlight a study that investigated the relationship between genetically predicted body mass index and various maternal outcomes, including postpartum depression. They note that the definition of postpartum depression used in the study was inconsistent with the commonly accepted definition, as it did not consider the time interval between delivery and the diagnosis of depression. The authors caution that understanding the procedures used to generate genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data is crucial for obtaining reliable and interpretable findings in MR analyses.
