- Abstract
The aim of this study is to identify the potential re-use of Waste Foundry Sand as an alternative material to fine aggregate in concrete, to reduce the depletion of natural resources. The performance of concrete prepared with seven different percentages (10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 75% and 100%) of waste Foundry Sand is investigated. Super plasticizing Admixture was administered into concrete for workability. The specimens were subjected to several testing including Compression Test, Split Tensile Test, Flexural Load Test, Elastic Modulus Test and Durability Test. The experimental results obtained on day 28 showed the concrete, with 50% replacement of fine aggregate with waste foundry sand, attained maximal compressive strength of 40.29 Mpa, an increase of 8.16% to that of Control Mix. The obtained results satisfy the permissible limits of the Indian Standards.
