- Abstract
The article "TikTok in German lessons and in digital everyday life: Functions and didactic reflections" examines the significance of TikTok in the media everyday life of young people and its connection to the videos published there. The article is based on a survey among students at a Viennese grammar school and advocates for an approach to TikTok in German lessons that takes into account the digital reality of the students. Various aspects of TikTok videos are discussed, such as their heterogeneity, aesthetic strategies, and the influence of the algorithm. The article emphasizes the importance of a critical examination of TikTok in teaching and recommends incorporating the perspective of the students. Challenges and potentials that TikTok offers in teaching are also discussed, as well as possibilities to use the platform as a goal or means in teaching.
