- Abstract
This paper poses the results achieved from the research work Restoration and Conservation of Barranquilla's General Hospital as an Arquitectural Heritage Building. The objective of this research is to set forward a proposal on how to implement the operation of a building which is representative of the urban development of Barranquilla of the period comprising the last few years of the nineteenth century and the beginnings of the twentieth. The value of this building resides in the fact that it highly contributed to the consolidation of the cultural identity of the city: a Republican style with influences from the colonial period. In the General Hospital of Barranquilla, 50% of its facilities were built before 1920, since then, it has had several inappropriate interventions hence, threatening the architectural heritage since this building is included within the area of the historical center of the city. Moreover, this section of the city is protected under decree 0117 of the 29th of July 2005 in which a partial plan was adopted for the protection, restoration, recovery and comprehensive revitalization of the historical center of the Industrial and Port District of Barranquilla.
