- Abstract
This article presents information on the content of the December 1992 issue of the periodical "Human Resource Management." In the article, Positioning Human Resource As a Value-Adding Function: The Case of Rockwell International, Jay Galbraith discusses the changing role of the human resource function using the term and concept of "value added" to demonstrate that human resource professionals need to ensure that organizations are value producing. He defines a value-adding corporation as one that integrates the more traditional divisional strategies with holding company strategies to ensure a more responsive organization structure. His article then demonstrates how a value-added organization works by presenting a thorough description of Rockwell International Corp. The article concludes by suggesting an agenda for human resource in a value-adding corporation. In brief, this work extends twenty years of research and writing by Galbraith on how organizations can organize to be successful.
