- Abstract
Assessment and treatment of pain in burn patient is essential in the intensive care setting, where the patient is often unable to self report. For proper and comprehensive pain management, the nurse uses personalized rating scales and nonpharmacologic interventions to support routine analgesic therapy. The objectives of this review were to search pain assessment tools validated in Italy for the ICU setting and to identify nonpharmacological treatments to be implemented in burn patients to reduce pain. The search was conducted on two databases: PubMed and Cinahl. Several rating scales, all of which can be used in an intensive care unit, and nonpharmacological treatments available in the nursing management of pain in the burn patient were identified. However, new research and experimental studies are needed in the future.
