- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the Buckeye Secular Union, a secular free thought organization in Marietta, Ohio. Focus is given to a description of the Union's fourth Annual Convention, held in Marietta in 1905. Also discussed are such organizations' debates on the theory of evolution, along with the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, which revolved around teacher John T. Scopes violation of Tennessee's Butler Act for teaching about evolution.
