- Abstract
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) takes a significant toll on the health and productivity of the global population. it is still considered to be the most freequent compression neuropathy of the upper limb. Symptoms of CTS may include nocturnal or permanent pain/paresthsia involving the first 3 radial digits and increased difficulty in fine motor tasks. While the syndrome affects both men and women, the frequency is 3 times higher in women. Surgical decompression of the median nerve is a sure and relatively easy procedure which alleviates the symptomps and improves the life-quality of the patient. an important aspect of the procedure is the protection of the recurrent motor branch (rMB) of the median nerve. The most common course of the recurrent motor branch is extraligamentous distal to the flexor retinaculum. There are, however, significant variations in the course of the recurrent motor branch. Carefull identification of these variations are essential in order to avoid iatrogenic injuries. The following case report describes a 42-year-old male with an intraligamentous rMB.
