- Abstract
The article focuses on a study which evaluated the use of metabolic surgery to treat type 2 diabetes. Obesity is the main risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Presently, people with morbid obesity are treated using lifestyle intervention like diet and exercise, behavioral management and drug therapy. Bariatric or metabolic surgery, which is being considered an effective treatment for obesity, is advocated for treating people with type 2 diabetes even though they did not meet the body mass index (BMI) criteria.
