- Abstract
The article discusses the efforts of Maryland Sea Grant and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science to address the labor challenges in the oyster aquaculture industry. They operated a demonstration oyster farm in Maryland to provide training opportunities for individuals interested in the industry. Workshops were held for existing and prospective oyster farmers, and educational programs were offered to K-12+ students to raise awareness about aquaculture as a viable source of employment. The demonstration farm also served as a site for trainings, workshops, and interactions with government and non-governmental organizations. The article emphasizes the importance of training facilities in preparing a diverse and talented workforce to support the growth of the oyster aquaculture industry.
