- Abstract
The article discusses a study which aims to establish a literature-based estimate of symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE) event rates before hospital discharge in patients undergoing total or partial knee arthroplasty (TPKA) or total or partial hip arthroplasty (TPHA). Results reveal that the pooled rates of symptomatic postoperative VTE before hospital discharge were 1.09% for patients TPKA and 0.53% for those undergoing TPHA. The pooled rates for symptomatic deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism were 0.26% and 0.14%, respectively, for TPHA, and 0.63% and 0.27%, respectively, for TPKA.
