- Abstract
The article focuses on a study on the efficacy and tolerability of pegloticase in treating chronic gout in patients who are refractory to conventional treatment. It cites refractoriness, contraindication or intolerance as factors behind the failure of urate-lowering therapy to meet the target uric acid (UA) in patients with gout. The study involved two replicate, randomized, six-month, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials, results of which show that the loss of pegloticase efficacy tend to occur during the early months of treatment. Findings also indicate that the incidence of gout flares is higher for patients under the pegloticase group during the first three months.
