The article focuses on the author's experience in living in Lithuania since 2000. Lithuania was the first country to declare themselves independent in 1990 and managed to hold on in spite of strong pressure from Russia. Depression in the country started with a populist movement led by the gherkin tycoon Vladimir Uspaskikh. He noticed that stagnation is still noticeable in Lithuania even after it joined the European Union.
