- Abstract
Background of the Study: The importance teachers carry in the life of a given society always keep the betterment of the pre-service processes and the seeking of a better quality in teacher education prominent. Identifying the applications directed towards quality development in teachers' pre-service training in Turkey would make it possible to define the current situation, thereby shedding light to potential research and applications in future. The Aim of the Study: This study aims at presenting a historical overview of the attempts to increase the quality of pre-service teacher education in Turkey. Data Sources: The data in the study was gathered from published written materials, which makes the research an analysis of documentation study. Discussion: In the scope of the study, government programs, development plans, national education councils, legal and constitutional legislations, program development attempts, and university-faculty centered activities, have been taken as factors shaping the teacher education. Results: It is not possible to claim that the teachers education programs that are implemented in Turkey to date are based on and evaluated taking into consideration a structured quality system and the realities of that system.
