- Abstract
The article discusses a shift in sanitation and hygiene improvement initiatives focusing on the approach taken by natural resource specialist Kamal Kar called the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS). The effectiveness of CLTS is discussed as it provides individuals with latrine subsidies and a monitoring system mobile to web application (M2W). The causes of diarrhea and its association with unhygienic condition are discussed along with CLTS approach to defecation in Zambia, Africa.
