- Abstract
The article presents research result which was carried out primarily at International Baptist Theological Seminary (IBTS) during sabbatical study leave in autumn 2003. It addresses issues related to religious, social and psychological factors of Jewish-Lithuanian relations in the context of the partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Russian Imperial 'Pale of Settlement' and the emergence of the Zionist movement. It examines the influence of cultural anti-semitism, both in legislation and in folk mythology, and on the anti-Jewish attitudes and behaviour of different political, ecclesiastical, intellectual and social groupings in the wake of the almost complete extermination of Lithuanian Jewry during World War II.
