- Abstract
The article discusses two historical episodes in written protests that faced different consequences. One is by Elise and Otto Hampel's postcard protest against German dictator Adolf Hitler which became the inspiration for Hans Fallada's 1947 novel "Every Man Dies Alone." The other is "Guardian" editor Alan Rushbridger's Twitter post about the 2006 industrial waste dumping in the Ivory Coast which was followed by a class action suit where 30,000 Africans claimed to have been affected by the dumping. It also offers an overview of articles within the issue.
