An essay is presented on the relationship between the discovery of America, nation state creation and historical archives, heavily referencing the book "The Invention of America: An Inquiry Into the Historical Nature of the New World and the Meaning of Its History," by Edmundo O’Gorman. An overview American studies, including in regard to the social aspects of the discovery of America, is provided.
