- Abstract
This article discusses the potential relationship between iron homeostasis (IH) alterations and erectile dysfunction (ED). The authors highlight the emerging role of IH in ED, particularly in patients with hereditary hemochromatosis who experience iron overload in penile tissue. The mechanisms underlying this relationship are not yet fully understood, but hypotheses include endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and neurogenic dysfunction. The authors suggest that further research is needed to explore the connection between IH alterations and ED and to develop potential therapeutic interventions.
