On the Utmost Verge: Race and Ethnic Relations at Moreton Bay, 1799-1842.
- Authors
Evans, Raymond
- Abstract
The article explores the early colonial history of Moreton Bay, Queensland and examines not only the motives and perceptions on each side of the frontier, but also the ethnic relations within the penal settlement itself. It highlights the historical background of Moreton Bay which was predominantly considered as a British establishment. It adds that aside from the fact that Moreton Bay became one of the early Australian penal stations, it likewise served as a forbidding secondary detention centre which represented a microcosmic world of early colonial race and ethnic relations. It also notes that the said place became the home of numerous Aboriginal communities.
