- Title
GANDHI ON DEMOCRACY, POLITICS AND THE ETHICS OF EVERYDAY LIFE.
- Authors
MEHTA, UDAY SINGH
- Abstract
The article discusses the political theories and philosophy of Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi. The author suggests that Gandhi's understanding of moral action implies fearlessness while that of political reason implies the need for security and self-defense. The everyday context of moral action is considered in relation to the community and the family unit. The author contends that Gandhi's non-violence is an existential state that can be manifested in practices such as spinning, fasting, and silence and is ambivalent towards political ends and democracy.
