- Abstract
Research on digital, palmar and plantar dermatoglyphics; ABO, Rh and other blood groups; menarche; taste to PTC, isonymy and consanguinity; body composition; bioelectrical impedance; polymorphisms; DNA markers; and many other characteristics of the Sardinian population are reported. In particular, research actuated from 1953 by the Institute of Anthropology at the University of Cagliari are cited. From this research, it can be concluded that the people of Sardinia present a whole set of characteristics that distinguish them from other populations in general. Moreover, within the Sardinian population it is possible to distinguish many groups that reflect their historical, geographical and linguistic characteristics. These characteristics are due to various factors such as genetic drift and the founder effect and maintenance of the subsequent differences with regard to their successive isolation.
