The Harrowing Heroism of Alexander Melnikov.
- Authors
YEARSLEY, DAVID
- Abstract
Alexander Melnikov, a Russian pianist living in Germany, recently performed two recitals at Cornell University's Center for Historical Keyboards. Melnikov showcased his expansive repertoire and technical prowess, playing on various pianos and a harpsichord. Despite his success on stage, Melnikov expressed fatigue and fear off-stage, particularly in light of recent events such as the murder of Alexei Navalny. The recitals featured a range of compositions, including works by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, and Schnittke, and Melnikov's performances were described as both heroic and harrowing.
