- Authors
WITTNER, LAWRENCE
- Abstract
The article discusses the growing similarity between the Chinese and U.S. economic systems, both of which have seen a rise in the number of billionaires. The United States currently has 735 billionaires, with Elon Musk being the richest American with a fortune of $241 billion. China has 562 billionaires, with Zhong Shanshan being the wealthiest Chinese billionaire with a fortune of $64 billion. However, the article also highlights the economic inequality present in both countries, with workers in China and the United States facing low wages and precarious employment. The influence of billionaires in politics and the prioritization of corporate interests is also discussed.
