- Abstract
The article profiles the Visitacion Valley Therapeutic Nursery, an early education program developed by the authors in San Francisco, California that provides services to students who have experienced violence or trauma. Information is provided on the development and financing of the therapeutic classroom, noting the the use of government grants and mental health professionals. Particular attention is given to the use of reflective practice, a relationship-based supervisory approach in which a safe environment for staff members is fostered, and how it was applied to the children. In addition, the authors discuss how teacher-student relationships were developed as a form of intervention. INSET: One Teacher's Reflection.
