Progress Toward Global Eradication of Dracunculiasis, January 2010-June 2011.
- Abstract
The article discusses progress towards global eradication of dracunculiasis since January 2010. The infection with the parasite is attributed to drinking water from stagnant sources with copepods that harbor Dracunculus medinensis. Disabilities caused by draunculiasis are secondary to bacterial infections which develop in the skin, resulting to pain and swelling. Ways to prevent dracunculiasis are enumerated. Also included are reports on cases of dracunculiasis in African countries.
