The article reflects on the strategies for developing and inspiring new research ideas. He believes on the strategy of spending roughly half of one's reading time on scholarly articles and books that are within one of the areas to which one devotes his/her research, then to spend about a quarter of one's reading time on scholarly pieces within the scope of life or environmental sciences, but clearly outside his/her area of research expertise.
