The article examines the prevalence of stone construction in Napa Valley, California during the 19th century. Several factors have influenced the existence of stone buildings in the region, including the availability of natural resources and the skills acquired by the settlers concerning building methods and architectural designs. Volcanic rocks and sandstone were utilized in developing commercial and public buildings.
