- Title
Rhomboid intramembrane protease structures galore!
- Authors
White, Stephen H
- Abstract
The article discusses the structures of an intramembrane serine protease reveal a catalytic His-Ser dyad in a water-filled cavity surrounded by six transmembrane helices. The structures are responsible, for cleaving the transmembrane amyloid precursor proteins that result in the beta peptide associated with Alzheimer disease. It also suggested answers to the questions of how the transmembrane helix substrate enters the protein from the lipid bilayer and how access might be regulated.
