- Abstract
An official visit by a member of a Royal, reigning family, or by an elected, ranking official of a host nation is one of the highlights of multinational public relations (PR) as practiced by those American companies whose growth patterns have taken them into literally hundreds of countries encircling the globe. The article presents information about the multinational PR program launched by Eaton Corp. To be operative, the PR Director of a multinational company must be fully aware and apprised of the current and frequently fast changing climate politically, diplomatically, financially, industrially, etc. of those countries in which his firm operates. Eaton's international PR program has been structured by the corporation's U.S. PR Staff, working in close cooperation with the worldwide corporate marketing staffs and general managers companies of similar size and by first-rate local PR firms in several key countries. The philosophy of relying heavily upon knowing and experienced local support working within the corporate PR "umbrella" has paid rich dividends and has literally put Eaton into the headlines in the 22 countries in which the company has operations, as well as bringing numerous and other more tangible dividends.
