- Abstract
Two novel naphthoxirene derivatives 1 and 2 their glucosides 3 and 4 have been isolated from the root bark of Sesamum angolense Welw. (Pedaliaceae) by preparative liquid chromatography. The structure of 1 was established by X-ray diffraction analysis. The identities of the other naphthcxirenes were deduced by spectroscopic (IR, UV, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, EI-MS, DCI-MS) and chemical methods (oxidation, acid and enzymatic hydrolysis). Compounds 1- 3 exhibited antifungal activity. Naphthoxirene 1 was, in addition, cytotoxic to human colon carcinoma cells.
