- Abstract
The article offers information on the significance of sovereign wealth funds (SWF) worldwide. Such type of fund has been controversial because of the special attention accorded to it. To assess the issue, the Organization for Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD) conducted a study. It states that SWF contains assets that governments have decided to keep separate from its regular processes of government budgeting and asset management and major SWF came from Middle East, Norway, Russia and few regional funds from Alaska, Alberta and Canada. Researchers found that SWF generally have long investment horizons and many of the oil exporting countries for the benefit of future generations. Presented are the details of the issue.
