- Abstract
This article discusses the concentrations of heavy metals in marine sediments and small mussels found in San Antonio Bay off the Rio Negro River in Argentina. According to the authors, this area was first studied in 1999 because of the Gonzalito Mine which was involved in extraction of zinc, lead, silver and vanadium for an electrochemical plant within San Antonio Oeste, Argentina. The highest levels of zinc copper and lead in the marine sediments were found within the Harbor Channel which may be considered as moderately polluted with zinc copper and polluted with lead. Mussels with high levels of zinc copper and lead showed worse body condition indices than those with low concentrations.
