The authors explore a number of problems with surveillance of occupational disease by centralized reporting of cases. They believe that the biggest problem of this sort of reporting scheme is that it has the tendency to underestimate the incidence of occupational disease aside from the tendency for physicians to overdiagnose work-related disorders.
