- Abstract
In the article "Palaeolithic lives: Uniting the biological and the social. Review of: Palaeolithic Europe: A demographic and social prehistory," Jennifer French argues that it is possible to write a social and demographic prehistory of Palaeolithic Europe. The first half of the book focuses on the evidence and methods for reconstructing paleodemography, while the second half explores the changing paleodemographic and social makeup of Palaeolithic Europe. French emphasizes the dynamics and main trends in European Palaeolithic demography, including the significance of demographic factors in key events and the role of women and children. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the European Palaeolithic and highlights the importance of taking a social-demographic perspective.
