- Abstract
The geographical concept of "Jiang-Zhe" has undergone a process of continuous construction and evolution throughtout hisotry. From the Southern Dynasties to the Yuan Dynasty, "Jiang-Zhe" was often used to refer to the traditional Wu-Yue area with a spatial range from Taihu Basin to Qiantang River Basin. After entering the Ming Dynasty, "Jiang-Zhe" had a triple geographical indication meaning in people's perception. Especially in the background of the steady rise of political and cultural status of Jiangxi Province in the Ming Dynasty, the statement that "Jiang-Zhe" refers to Jiangxi and Zhejiang Provinces had occupied the mainstream of public opinion. After the establishment of Jiangnan Province in the second year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty, Jiangnan had occupied an absolute dominant position in the game of the concept of "Jiang-Zhe" compared with Jiangxi, and the public opinion gradually referred to Jiangnan and Zhejiang Provinces as "Jiang-Zhe". Since the Mid-Qing Dynasty, with the basic completion of the transformation of "name" and "reality" after the division of Jiangnan into provinces, Jiangsu had replaced Jiangnan in the original title of "Jiang-Zhe", and the geographical concept of "Jiang-Zhe" had finally taken shape. The above phenomena show that there are inherent rules in the construction and evolution of geographical concepts, administrative divisions, historical origins, and even the subjective desires of regional groups will affect the interpretation of specific geographical concepts by people at that time.
