Evolution: A gutsy defence of the skin.
- Authors
Bordon, Yvonne
- Abstract
The article discusses research being done on the evolutionary origins of mucosal immune defenses. It references a study by J. Oriol Sunyer and colleagues which appeared in a 2013 issue of "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences." Results of the study showed that there were higher levels of immunoglobulin T (IgT than immunoglobulin M in the skin mucus of teleost fish. It also suggests that IgT plays an important role in the regulation of the skin microbiota.
