- Abstract
The experiment was carried out to know the optimum bridle length for operating the square mesh codend used in trawl codend viz. 15 m and 20 m for the depth of 20 m. The study was carried out once in a month for a period of five months. The catch found were 17.90 kg and 31.40 kg for 15th day to the 15 m and 20 m bridle length, respectively. During the 45th day, the catch obtained was 17.12 kg and 30.60 kg for 15 m and 20 m bridle length respectively. As far as 75th days are concerned, the catch obtained were 15.30 kg and 37.85 kg for 15 m and 20 m bridle length respectively at a depth of 20 m, the catch obtained for 105th day was 19.48 kg and 38.40 kg for the square mesh codend used with 15 m and 20 m bridle length respectively. Similarly for 135th day, the catch obtained was 16.79 kg and 40.06 kg for 15 m and 20 m bridle length respectively. It was also studied during that the diamond mesh was used as a cover codend for the square mesh codend trawl net to know the escapement of fishes with 8.70 kg, 13.52 kg, 8.50 kg, 12.57 kg, 9.25 kg, 14.70 kg, 9.54 kg and 14.60 was observed for 15th, 45th, 75th, 105th and 135th, respectively for the square mesh codend trawl net with a bridle length of 15 m and 20 m respectively. It was noticed that at a depth of 20 m and for 20 m bridle length it was found suitable for conducting the trawl net fishing operation for commercial experiments.
