- Abstract
A literary criticism of Olaudah Equiano's "The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the African, Written by Himself" is presented. It explores the attempt of Equiano to inscribe the autobiographical subject as object within the rhetorical structures. It focuses on episodes that speak to the function of intercession including the experience of manumission, the talking book, spiritual conversion, and the confession to complicity in the slave trade.
