- Abstract
The article engages the representation of race in the novel "La negra Angustias," by Francisco Rojas González and in the film directed by Matilde Landeta. It examines and illustrates moments in the novel and film where the representation of African Mexican race is seminal. It suggests the influence of race relations on the development of racial difference in the film. It associates the fractures of racial identity in Mexico to the absence of African Americans in the national imaginary.
