The article discusses a research study on the elevated risk of the first responders, those fightfighters directly exposed to the World Trade Center (WTC) following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, of getting cancer. It references a study published in the September 3, 2011 issue of the journal "The Lancet." Findings showed that the WTC-exposed group had a 19 percent higher relative risk of cancer compared with the control group.
