- Abstract
How do interest groups draw on the legal system to realize their interests? How are activities of interest groups in the course of the policy cycle structured by law? And what type of interest groups can we find within the legal system? Against the background of an increasing juridification and formalization of social interactions in modern democracies, these questions are of utmost importance for public policy and public administration research. The article outlines the different dimensions of research related to interest groups, law and politics. Furthermore, a systematic literature review in relevant, high quality research journals has been conducted to critically assess the state of the art of this research field in Germany. While the importance of the law as a resource for collective action is widely acknowledged, research on the interplay of interest groups, law and politics is still a research desideratum.
