- Abstract
Introduction: Root canal irrigant play a vital role in increasing the success of root canal treatment by eliminating the microbial biofilm responsible for the root canal infection. The aim of the present study is to compare the antibacterial efficacy of Equus asinus milk (Hydrolyzed) with 2.5% Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) against Enterococcus faecalis. Methods and Materials: In this experimental study, three different concentrations (25ul, 50ul and 100ul) of Equus asinus milk were prepared after hydrolysis. Enterococcus faecalis was cultured on nutrient agar. Five uniform wells of size 6mm were prepared on culture plates. The three different concentrations of the hydrolyzed milk, Sodium hypochlorite 2.5% as a positive control and Sterile deionised water as a negative control were added to the respective wells in the Enterococcus faecalis grown culture plates. After 24 hours, the mean of zone of inhibition around the test samples and control samples were compared statically using one-way ANOVA. Results: The mean of the inhibition zone diameter around the wells with the 50ul and 100ul hydrolyzed milk was significantly greater than the positive control. (P value less than 0.05). Conclusion: The antibacterial efficacy of Equus asinus milk at 50ul and 100ul concentrations against Enterococcus faecalis was greater than Sodium hypochlorite 2.5%.
