- Abstract
At four locations (three in Berlin, one in Brandenburg), a total of 557 sand lizards (Lacerta agilis) were captured and later relocated. In the process, pictures of the sides of each lizard's head were taken and various pholidotic characteristics of the head scales were examined at a later date. On average, 82.1 % of the examined lizards showed a configuration in the nasoloreal scales of 1/2 left/1/2 right. 89.9 % of the lizards had a configuration of the large loreal of 1 le/1 ri, and 62.4 % had a 2 le/2 ri configuration in the praeoculars. In 55.5 % of the examined lizards the number of supraciliars was 5 le/5 ri, and in 84 % the number of supratemporals was 2 le/2 ri. 74.8 % showed a configuration in the supralabials of 4 le/4 ri. In all the studied features cases of asymmetric scaling could be observed in different frequencies, and in some characteristics the difference was up to two scales between the two sides of the head.
