- Abstract
While questions around the generation of value are usually treated as economic, the process of value generation is here understood politically and economically. It is a twosided process marked by domination: evaluation is linked to devaluation just as much as the inclusion of some is linked to the exclusion of others. We call this mechanism the "principle of externalization". The construction of the externalizing principle in the political and economic sciences, the forms of domination and its (at times violent) realization are discussed in the context of the history of political and economic theory. Feminist analyses of classical contract theories and political economy show that bourgeois society and its economy are marked by divisions. Valuable members of society are dependent on what is excluded for being worthless. What becomes clear is that history did not come to an end with classical political and economic theory, but that, to this day, domination-like devaluations are used as crisis management tools.
