This essay investigates the ethical aspects of art from the perspective of Confucianism. The relationship between the creation of art and ritual practice is discussed, particularly through the example of Chinese calligraphy. The author suggest that Confucian thought ascribes a moral responsibility to the practice of artistic expression.
