- Title
Breastfeeding: supporting work throughout the year.
- Authors
Ly, Kin
- Abstract
The article offers information on the National Breast Awareness Week (NBAW) celebration on June 21 to 27, 2010 in Great Britain themed "Breastfeeding: Everyday is Good for Your Baby." It cites that many practitioners believe that NBAW will raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding and draw media attention to local support groups for mothers. Fiona Matthews, founder of Caithness Breast Friends, an online networking web site in Scotland, suggests that it would be more beneficial to have different events that are more participatory, like breastfeeding picnic. It notes that NBAW can also be used to launch new initiatives like the Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme that was launched in Wales during the 2009 NBAW, and the Agored Cymru course in breastfeeding peer support.
