- Abstract
The text is a review of the book "Believing in History" written by François Hartog, which explores the relationship between the past, the present, and the future. The book is divided into six sections and a conclusion, where the change in the understanding of history and the emergence of presentism are discussed. The relationship between memory and history is also addressed, as well as the debate between realistic and philosophical approaches in the historical discipline. The author uses examples of artworks to illustrate the transformation of the modern regime of historicity towards presentism. The text analyzes the methodology used in the author's visual representation and questions the validity of his conclusions, examining the representation of the concept of history in literature and establishing connections between different temporalities. The last chapter narrates the change in temporal paradigm in historiography and mentions two versions of the modern regime of historicity, discussing the impact of the present on the way history is conceived and mentioning different historiographical approaches.
