- Title
SIDMAN ON AVERSIVE CONTROL.
- Authors
Ahearn, William H.
- Abstract
The author discusses Murray Sidman's comments on aversive control and its relevance to the current practice of behavior analysis. He cites Sidman's "Coercion and Its Fallout" as a personal testimonial on how aversive control's intended and unintended consequences should not be trivialized and notes suggestion that the most reasonable objective to using punishments is to halt undesirable behavior. He notes the need to overhaul the decision matrix associated with treating severe problem behavior.
