- Abstract
This paper uses the method of “contextualization of narratives”, in order to reexamine the broader historical, cultural and literary background that gave rise to the 1980s Taiwanese women's fiction, including its possible relationship with the realist xiangtu literature that dominated the Taiwanese literary field throughout the previous decade. Looking back at its genealogy and by discussing the actual literary production (both fiction and non-fiction) of the writers active throughout the period, this paper aims to reevaluate more objectively and appropriately their literary success, female consciousness as well as their oeuvre’s sexual politics.
